Devin Ray Reading

March is National Reading Awareness month. There is a whole month devoted to celebrating reading. It is also the time to promote yourself and your book while encouraging everyone to read.

Here are ways you can dedicate some time in March to promoting your books:

1. Share Your Books In Several Formats:

Think of different ways you can share your book and introduce multiple formats. This will allow you to reach a broader audience. Below are a few we thought of.

  • Kindle
  • Paperback
  • Apple iPad
  • NOOK
  • Hardback
  • Audio

2. Go Read At A School or Library

Contact a local school or library to find out how you can help promote reading and writing, throughout the entire month of March.

3. Consider Advertising

This is different from publicity. Advertising is paid for opportunities.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Facebook
  • Newspaper
  • A Radio Spot
  • TV
  • Other People Lists
  • Magazines
  • Sponsoring an event

4. Request Book Reviews

Research has shown that positive reviews make a book sell better. One way to get the review ball rolling is to ask friends who have already read your book to write a review. Since writing reviews can be time-consuming, you can even offer to write some sample sentences about the contents of the book.

5. Find A New Audience

Actively seek out readers who might be interested in reading your book.

You can do this through:

  • Facebook Ads
  • Business meetings
  • Conferences
  • Speaking
  • Submitting your book to book clubs
  • Anywhere you can build relationships

6. Make Sure To Stay Updated On Your Sites

Provide your fans with updates on the status of each upcoming book, the research you’re doing, or interesting things you’ve discovered during the writing process.

7. Blog On Others Sites

Find book bloggers to increase exposure for your work. Google your genre and go check out blogs you would like to be a guest on. Through your research, you will find out which bloggers will be open to reading and reviewing your book. Contact them. You might even get a link to your website or your Amazon book page out of it.

8. Redo Your Author Website

Give your blog or website a facelift. If you already have a blog or website where you have been promoting your book, now’s the time to refresh the look and feel or add content. Make sure your site is inviting and reflects who you are as a writer.

9. Do Book Signings

Schedule some book signings wherever you travel to and alert your fans when you will be in their hometown for a signing. Your fans like meeting in person and will promote you.

These are just a few ways you can promote your book and encourage others to read. One of our clients created a program for reading called Adopt-an-Author. We encourage other authors to join programs like the one Steve Alten created. It is a great way to encourage people to read. Imagine something you wrote being used to educate others. Is that not the goal after all?
